Hello everybody! Let’s glide into the seventeenth video on ‘Spinning into Career’ to know about Ruchi’s response to marriage and love.
Ruchi’s dad houses South Indian youths who come in search of jobs to Sharanai. One youth, Krishnan, gets the job of a stenographer in a company. He frequents Ruchi’s house and is friendly with her dad. He has a sister called Rima and he wants to take her on a tour to Sharanai. On a Sunday, Ruchi accompanies Krishnan and his sister to Karnai Road, Shorine Lines. the Shoe house, the Museum, the Blooming fountain and Pearls Necklace. Mr. Krishnan has many friends and Mahesh, a newcomer from South India is one of them. The office for him is a place where he claims to be superior to those who have joined later. He comments on their English, not being conscious of the English he speaks.
Once, Ruchi’s family members assemble with the guests. Mr. Krishnan and Mahesh are among them. The subject centers on politics. The new comer advocates for the prime minister and Krishnan is totally against him. In the heat of the argument, Krishnan belittles Mahesh in a playful manner. Krishnan dominates him every time. Ruchi says, ” Don’t be nasty. No one is perfect and don’t deride anyone for their views.” Mahesh gets a job in NARC and frequents Ruchi’s house. He wants Ruchi to make notes in Economics for him. One day, he invites her family members for a movie. While returning from the show, Ruchi thanks him. Mahesh tries to walk along with Ruchi. He trips several times, so she walks with her dad. The next day, he comes with a box of sweets and flowers. He hands it over to Ruchi. He invites her family members for a stroll to a nearby park. He escorts Ruchi every time she crosses the road. At home, she is laughed at by the family. At night, Ruchi has the inkling that Mahesh is not the right man for her. She prays to God for the right man to be her husband. In spite of being praised by Mahesh for being a talented woman, she cannot imagine her being his wife, who is according to her, unromantic and lazy.
After matriculation, he works at NARC. He writes good simple English with no wearisome flaws. He is occupied with the thought of being her husband. He plays carrom billiards with her and her parents. He comments, ” I will win in life if you become my wife.” Ruchi says, ” I will lose my life if you become my husband.” Her maternal grandmother, who is worried about Ruchi getting a suitable partner, has sent him to Ruchi’s house as a possible match for her. Since he is an orphan, his aunt has adopted him. He reveals his opinion about elders, who must be respected and that women should use their talent at home. Such thoughts make Ruchi shudder. She becomes serious and is in no mood to be friendly with him. The next day he comes to Ruchi’s house with the intention of introducing Ruchi’s dad to his relatives. He introduces the prospect of his marriage with Ruchi to her dad. Her dad replies that marriage is not possible for at least two years since she has to finish her studies. After some days, he comes with the intention of taking Ruchi to a South Indian movie. He seeks permission from Ruchi’s dad who disagrees blatantly. Mahesh walks away without a word.
After the exam , Ruchi returns to her job. She joins journalism course in PN college. She attends lectures in the evening after work in NARC. The journalism class involves media communication, editing, film journalism, newspaper reporting and so forth. The lectures are very interesting. Prof. Tarun Ghosh’s teaching is simple and is devoid of complexity. His eyes are always red and dreamy as though he is under the influence of some drug. Journalism is an interesting diversion.
