Hello everybody! It is a world of change. So too is failure. This is the nineteenth video on ‘Spinning into Career’

On a Muharram day, Ruchi abstains from going with her family members for a picnic. She cries loudly, letting her tears roll down her cheeks while all alone at home. She has done a lot of research, has made notes and has studied carefully. Despite all her efforts, she has failed. She cannot cry further and blames God and fate. She decides to retake the exam without anyone knowing it. Her office colleagues assume that she has passed and ask her for a treat. Ruchi offers them one. At home, her dad asks for the marksheet. She tells him it will take a long time to get it. She stops lighting lamp for Lord Ganesha. She visits Ruchkar college and finds that she has been marked absent for two subjects.

Mr. Balwant permits her to go to the University. She informs the clerk that she was present for the two subjects the university has inadvertently marked absent. Many answer sheets have been missing. The clerk tears the failed marksheet and assures her that it will be corrected. Within a few days, she receives a letter from the Bhilai university that she has cleared her B.A. exam. Ruchi gets the marksheet from the university. It has been fabricated. A newspaper carries a report about the missing answer booklets of the B.A. final exam from Tarabai college. Her score shows a low percentage. She propitiates Lord Ganesha again on Saturdays.

During her journalism course, she meets personalities with good reputation such as Mr. Vishal Vohra, Mr. and Mrs. Jeet Sinha and K.R. Venkatesh. She meets her classmate, Nayana at St. Thomas Gate Bridge. She has become a lecturer in Economics while Ruchi is struggling to make a career. A year passes without any noticeable diversion. Her hard work does not fructify. She fails in some second semester examinations in journalism. Her wheezing poses her a question. ” Why is she made to suffer?” She feels queasy many times. She takes medicine to control her acidity. She tries to keep quiet. She realizes she is not fit for writing in magazines and newspapers since it involves another kind of writing that is not literary by nature.

Her family improves economically. Susan’s dad advises her to leave her job because it involves more hours and less pay and deprives her of job satisfaction. She can improve her personality if she leaves her job. She underestimates her work. She applies for jobs in schools. She gets response from St. John’s school in Chirgaon. She gets mixed reports about the school and does not take up the job. Her father purchases a deep blue raincoat for her for the rainy season. Her friends and colleagues playfully call her, ‘Blue Riding Hood’. In a return local to Bhimpoli, she keeps the raincoat up in the stand above the seat. While getting down at Bhimpoli, she forgets to take the raincoat. She has also lost three umbrellas that her dad has bought for her consecutively for three days. She feels useless.

It rains heavily in Sharanai. The low lying areas in Sharanai such as Elpar, Sharanai central, Fahay, and Kaveri; as well as the suburbs are inundated. Ruchi reaches her office as usual. Train rides are affected. The tracks are flooded with water. The office staff are dismissed early. Ruchi and her colleagues are very happy. They do not go home yet. Instead they go to a theatre to watch a movie, ‘The Deep’. It is about life on the ocean floor. The diver’s attempt to reach the deep is very interesting. They have their lunch in the theatre. After the movie they find that no conveyance is available on roads. People are walking through water on the tracks.

Thank you for listening. We shall continue the story in the next video. Till then, goodbye!
