A teacher requests a favor from Ruchi. She says, ” Ruchi, you are getting married. You need money for your marriage expenses. You can make an extra income by helping a student by increasing her score from seventeen to thirty five.” She offers Ruchi some tea and says, “Think! The girl’s father will get you a diamond necklace. No one will come to know about it because you are getting married and will leave the school.” Ruchi has a sleepless night. She informs her parents about it. Her mother says, ” I will not suggest anything. It is your wish. Do what you want.” Ruchi thinks it is an easy way of making money, and she will even betray her husband to make more money. The first fall is difficult. The next day, the teacher invites her for tea. ” You will have to give the paper to the student who will take it home and write the right answers in blank spaces. You can correct it and increase the score. It’s simple. What is your decision?” Ruchi replies, ” No, I cannot do it. I am sorry.”
She has to investigate students taking their exams. One of the students resorts to cheating. Ruchi intimidates him. He says, “You have worn a red sari. I will turn you red with my knife.” Ruchi says, ” Okay, but you will not cheat. The student replies, ” Come out, I will show you what I am.” Fear rocks her heart, but the sense of duty prevails.
Ruchi’s father is worried since she left her government job at NARC. A stable government job is preferred for marriage. Hunting for a suitable groom for Ruchi takes two years. Ruchi’s horoscope is forwarded to various cities. An alliance for marriage comes from NARC. The boy, who is a scientific officer, is tall and hefty. He does not speak to Ruchi. He stands close to his mother. His parents speak to Ruchi. Ruchi rejects the boy since he seems to be a mamma’s boy. Her parents ask her to update her look and go to the studio and have her photo taken. The photo is sent by post to the merchant navy officer. His parents visit Ruchi and like her. However, the boy does not like the photo and rejects Ruchi. Ruchi’s dad goes to Ghardala and enters a bungalow to meet the boy’s father. The boy’s horoscope tallies with that of Ruchi’s. The boy’s father tells Ruchi’s dad that his son is in London. He is used to ballroom dance. He sneers and asks Ruchi’s dad whether his daughter has read Alice in Wonderland. Her dad is taken aback by this remark. Ruchi’s dad gets up and leaves for home.
A relative of her dad suggests an alliance for Ruchi. The boy is a manager in a company in South India. Ruchi and her parents make a trip to South India. They stay in a lodge. After decking herself, looking into the mirror, Ruchi feels like a prostitute. Ruchi enters the boy’s house. She is shown a room where four dark hefty women, sisters of the boy surround her. A sumptuous meal is prepared. Desserts of fruit salad and ice cream are served. Ruchi, her parents and members of the house sit for food served on plantain leaves. Ruchi relishes the food. She wants to have a look at the boy. They show the boy to her He has his food sitting in the opposite row. He puts his head down. After meals, while moving out of the house, his relative asks Ruchi whether she likes the boy. She says, ” No, he looks old enough to be my uncle.” Many horoscopes are forwarded to Ruchi’s dad. There is an alliance from Baney. The family knows Ruchi’s grandfather. The boy has graduated. He is a rickshaw driver. The boy’s mother comes with a flower hair garland in her hand to give to Ruchi.
