Hello! Here is the thirty sixth video on ‘Spinning into a Career’
Her uncle’s daughter asks Ruchi, “He is handsome, isn’t he?” Ruchi cannot say anything because she is not attracted to him and does not feel anything handsome about him. Ruchi’s uncle informs the boy’s sister that she writes poems but the sister responds with a smile. She says, ” Let’s see my brother’s luck. It will be good if he clears his CA.” After her engagement, Ruchi applies for jobs in Baney. One of the schools is St. Agnes High school. She is called for an interview. The boy is informed about it. He writes a letter to Ruchi, but Ruchi does not respond because she is not sure about him as her husband. The boy complains about lack of communication. He appears at the place of interview and meets her after. He tells her that he watches Hindi movies and asks whether she likes his favorite actor. Ruchi informs him that she does not watch movies.
The boy has booked an apartment for himself. Her uncle invites Ruchi’s father and Ruchi to visit the boy’s house in Bhimanagar. It is a two room apartment. It has a kitchen and a living room without a bedroom. The boy welcomes Ruchi and her dad. Ruchi is thirsty. She asks for a glass of water. The boy vouches that they have twenty four hour water supply, but when he opens the tap, there is not even a drop of water. Her uncle asks for the boy’s salary slip. The boy hands the paycheck to the uncle. At the station, her uncle says, ” The boy is useless. Ruchi, you can leave him whenever you want. He has good teeth. We will have to check if it is real.”
Back in Sharanai, in the school where she works, there is a math teacher, Mr. Bharat, who gives her a book to read. It is about outer space, giant and dwarf stars and parallax. Ruchi is taken by the book. She creates a synopsis of the book. The staff room is a place where teachers speak Gujarati and share their lunch. One of the delicious dishes is an assorted vegetable dish ,undhiyu. When the staff comes to know that Ruchi is engaged , they are surprised because she shows no sign of happiness or excitement. Ruchi informs them that the boy earns less. The staff members pacify her by saying that a man’s fortune can change anytime and ask her to be happy about her marriage. She gets gift coupons to buy clothes from the parents of the boy whom she coaches. The Gujarati language teacher comes to her house and gifts her a set of plastic containers. Ruchi goes to Ballard and buys a small mirror that can be fixed above the washbasin. Ruchi visits her music teacher, N.l.Parande. Mrs. Parande asks her to offer coconut to Goddess Shanta Durga. She presents her a small steel plate. Ruchi invites them to her wedding.
Final exams are on. She supervises students taking their exams. Assessment of answer booklets is on. She accompanies her parents to South India to buy Kanchipuram saris. While on her journey to South India, the train from Sharanai halts at Baney. Her fiance is present to meet her at the station. He inquires when she will return from South India. Ruchi uses the time in her train journey to assess answer sheets. She stays in her relative’s house to shop for the wedding. While she is resting, the old man of the house, who uses talcum powder to brighten his dark face, slides his hand on her. She asks him to remove his hand immediately or she will scream loudly. The old man moves away silently.
